My mom, who was a native of Ontario Canada ( Tilsonburg and London) had passed away a few years ago. She left a lovely collection of Crystal that was missing a few pieces. I am trying to find the manufacture and name of the pattern so that I can replace the missing glasses. Thanks to your web pages, I now know that the crystal is Hughes Cornflower. It will be interesting to see what pieces are available on the net and E. Bay and start collecting them. If any one knows of the Gordon Stewart, or Ray Weeks family of Tillsonburg, I would love to hear from them. Thank You. (from Puyallup, Washington, U.S.) |

Hi, came across your site while searching for info on two serving trays I have had for years. On the back of them is a sticker with “Genuine Corn Flower by W.J.Hughes” on it. Another sticker says Made In Canada. They are beautiful silver toned trays with the corn flower pattern on them. Does anyone know anything about these or there possible value etc? I seem to be able to only find info on his glass products. Beautiful pieces. Thanks for any info, ideas or suggestions. (from Penticton, B.C. Canada) |

Wonderful Site!! Just happened to come across it and so happy that I did. I have just aquired a pair of single candlesticks, a 7″ diameter bowl with candlewick around top edge and a 10″ hourglass shaped vase. Is there any information available as to what these items are worth. I would like to give them to my granddaughter, but would like to make sure she knows about Cornflower and just how lovely it is. Thank you for this site. If anyone knows this info please email me. (from Ontario) |

I have been fortunate in finding six liquor glasses with the sticker label – “Genuine Hughes Cornflower” – on the glasses. These were part of an estate sale. Can anyone advise me on any special value for these. I love this site – it’s terrific!! (from Toronto, Ontario, Canada) |

Hoping someone can help me. I did a really stupid thing and put Cornflower water glasses in the dishwasher. They now have a cloudy film on them. Does anyone know if there is anything to do to fix them or are they etched for life. I have 12 of them and sure hope they can be fixed. (from Hamilton, Ontario) |

I first encountered Cornflower at my Grandparents home as a child and always loved the pretty flowers and delicate glass. When I got engaged I went out to choose my China and Crystal and just couldn’t find a crystal pattern that I liked as much as the beautiful Cornflower depression glass I had always admired at my Grandmother’s house. I decided then and there that Cornflower would be my crystal. My family on both sides have been terrific in helping me collect pieces over the years. It means so much to know that they associate this beautiful pattern with me! I have quite a collection and am constantly on the search for more pieces. Thanks so much for the history lesson. I’ve asked so many people who sell the glass and they know so little about it. Your site is simply FABULOUS! (from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) |

Some of my earliest childhood memories have been sitting in my family home at holiday time eating special treats and deserts my mother had lovingly prepared for me and my ten siblings. The biggest treat however for me, was not the sweets we would receive but the dishes that the sweets were served upon. Beautiful glass ware that my parents had received as a wedding present in 1951 was always kept for special occasions. I would always eat slow as I loved to admire the beautiful cut corn flowers in the wine glasses, water glasses, sherbet dishes, desert bowls and nappies that I could only admire from the china cabinet the remainder of the year. As part of my wedding present I had been past my mothers beloved set of glass ware some ten years ago and can now admire it from my own china cabinet. To me that glass ware had always been just a special memory and gift from my mother until about two years ago when I became interested in collecting antiques and had stumbled on a piece of corn flower at a local shop where the owner had gave me a brief history its origin. Since then I have been serching form more information about the corn flower glass but little seems to be available. I have been successful however in finding some rare pieces, so I am told of the beautiful glass and have added them to my collection. Sadly, my mother has past away a little more than a year ago and is not able to share in my continued collecting. But now I collect in her memory and share the love of her corn flower with my children who some day will admire it from their own china cabinets. Thank you for the wonderful site it has been the most informative of all the information I have found on the subject and I will continue to visit. (from Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada) |

Thank you for setting up this site. It is refreshing to know that there are some good things that come out of Canada. My niece my brothers daughter started collecting Cornflower years ago and she constantly refers to a book she has on the subject. I myself collect old kerosene lamps. Now my niece Leigh has me interested in Corn Flower. For Christmas I started looking around last summer at antique shows for ideas and everytime I saw some cornflow I thought Leigh would like and that I liked myself I bought it for her. Later, when Christmas was drawing near she showed me her book and pointed out the pieces she already had aquired. There were salt shakers and a three legged candlewick dish that I had bought her and some other plates that she already has so alas I kept them. She wants to collect colored cornflower. I am now into collecting as well. It is fun to have similar interests. I bought some wine glasses from a consignment shop in Ottawa and the shop owner said she bought them off of a person who was a relative of a neighbour of Mr. Hughes and that Mr. Hughes had given them to his neighbour as a gift. They are not quite the same as the other Cornflower that I have. These have a deeper cut. I wonder if they are authentic? When my niece visited Ireland they asked her to sing a Canadian Song. All she could think of was “This Land is your Land this land is my land…etc.” After that visit she was determined to find things that were authentically Canadian and happy to say Corn flower is one of them. Thanks again for your site. (from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) |
